A Special Day with CHLA’s Literally Healing Program

Civic Soul recently had the privilege of partnering with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and their remarkable Literally Healing program—an initiative that does so much more than provide books. It brings moments of empowerment, comfort, and connection to children and families navigating some of the hardest chapters of their lives.

We began the morning with breakfast and an opportunity to learn about the heart behind the program. Hearing how stories are used as tools for healing, resilience, and even escape in the midst of medical challenges reminded us just how vital this work is. It’s not just meaningful—it’s necessary.

We then moved into CHLA’s beautiful healing garden, where our volunteers set up a welcoming space filled with books, crafts, snacks, and art supplies. Each child received a brand-new backpack to fill with stories, handmade bookmarks, and mini books of their own creation. They colored, imagined, and shared—with each moment reinforcing how healing connection and creativity can be.

It was a day full of joy, love, and humanity—one we won’t soon forget.
